Grounds for Divorce
Alaska legislation provides a list of grounds based on which it is possible to terminate the marriage. These include both fault and no-fault grounds. As a no-fault ground, it can be stated there are Irreconcilable differences between the spouses.
Fault-based grounds for divorce include adultery, severe crime, voluntary desertion of one of the spouses for at least one year, alcohol or drug addiction, cruel treatment, failure to consummate the marriage, and indistinguishable mental illness. Any fault-based ground must be proven by the plaintiff before the court.
